Wildlife is in abundance on Pender. The small black-tailed deer, prevalent on the island, wander freely through the property at dusk hoping for a tasty morsel of fresh vegetation. 
At Magic Lake Retreat you won’t have to go far if birding is your pleasure for you’ll be entertained by the many species of birds that frequent the lake and surrounding trees, among them mallards, geese, quail, hummingbirds, even eagles and osprey. Venture to the beaches and the coves and with luck you’ll spot Orcas, river otters, mink, or seals – and at Roe Lake evidence of the seldom seen beaver.
If all this seems too sedentary and physical activity of a more energetic nature is your passion, there is hiking, kayaking, tennis, golfing on Pender’s beautiful nine-hole course, or tossing a Frisbee at the 27-hole disc golf course just a few minutes walk from Magic Lake Retreat. And at the end of the day, the quiet breezes of the lake and the rowboat beckon. A sunset paddle among the lily pads – paddling slowly and quietly so as not to disturb the waterfowl --, is the perfect way to end your day.
