Outside you can venture
down to the lake, which is a private reservoir that
is stocked with rainbow trout. Since only people who
have property on the lake can access it, you’ll
enjoy the added calm.

There’s a dock in front
of the retreat where you can swim or try out the
assortment of paddling boats. Here you can watch the
birds that frequent the lake and surrounding trees,
including mallards, geese, quail, hummingbirds, eagles
and osprey. At dusk you may see some small
black-tailed deer wander freely through the property.

And if you decide to leave
your retreat, you can easily wander to nearby beaches
and the coves—you may spot Orcas, river otters,
mink, or seals. You can also be more adventurous and
go fishing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, whale
watching, golfing (a beautiful nine-hole course) or
frisbee-golfing at the 27-hole disc golf course. Or
take out the bicycles (helmets included!) and get a
workout on the Pender hills. Once the kids are asleep,
you may want to venture out on a sunset paddle among
the lily pads, paddling slowly and quietly amongst
waterfowl—a perfect way to end your day.
